Merrill's Donnie Woller roars to win in Tomahawk Yellow Book USA truck feature

TOMAHAWK, WI -- Donnie Woller used the outside lane to pass the competition on his way to victory in the Yellow Book USA Mid-Am Super Truck 50-lap feature race Saturday night at Pepsi Raceway Park in Tomahawk before the largest crowd of the 2004 season. Woller, of nearby Merrill, was the fastest qualifier for the quarter mile paved oval with a time of 13.795. His time was a shade slower than his all-time Yellow Book USA one-lap record of 13.584 established in 2003.

The feature winner started near the back of the lineup for the feature, but quickly raced to the front by using the outside lane. Last year's rookie of the year John Froelich followed Woller in the outer groove to the front of the field. Anthony Brewer set the pace for the first 15 laps before Woller got around him. Froelich overtook Brewer for second place on lap 25. One lap later Brewer and John Vig Jr collided along the backstretch. Brewer and Vig had battled for the lead over the first 15 laps of the race. Vig, who had won the most recent Yellow Book USA races at odessa, Mo and Shakopee, MN was never able to pass Brewer. Following the incident on the backstretch Brewer and Vig were sent to the rear of the field for the restart. Woller was able to maintain a one truck length lead over Froelich for the remaining 24 laps. After the race Woller got out of his truck in victory lane and stood on the roof of his Ford super truck, much to the delight of the local fans. Tony Holm, who drove a smooth race, came home in third while Gary Fredrickson had his best finish of the season with a fourth. Brill Prietzel and Jamie Farrell rounded out the top six. Completing the top ten were Anthony Brewer, Dominic Brewer, Kyle Bauknecht and Vig. Ten lap heat race winners were Froelich and Fredrickson.

Upcoming Yellow Book USA Super Truck races are Friday night, August 6 at Fergus Falls Raceway in Fergus Falls, MN at 8 p.m. and Saturday night, August 7 at I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre, MN. For additional series information call 920-823-2856.
