32nd annual Red, White & Blue State Championship points tightest ever heading into finale Saturday

KAUKAUNA, WI -- The tightest point race in the 32 year history of the Red, White & Blue State Championship Series will be unraveled when the series concludes Saturday night, August 21 at the Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna. Qualifying on the D-shaped half-mile paved track begins at 5:15 p.m. with racing to start at 7 p.m.

Twin 50-lap Yellow Book USA MARS Series features top the program along with a 30-lap limited late model feature. The Midwest Stock Car Classics will also hold a feature race on the half-mile track and the Vintage Modifieds will make their first ever appearance at the Wisconsin International Raceway. Four cylinder and figure 8 racing will also be included.

Tim Rothe is the current Red, White and Blue point leader with 153 points. Rothe will be seeking his first ever series championship of any type. He started in his race career in 1993 in the Mid-American Stock Car Series and his first ever win came at the Milwaukee Mile in August of that season. He has since moved into late model racing and has competed in the NASCAR Auto Zone Series. Rothe, a native of Appleton, moved to Nashville, TN and served as crew chief for NACAR's Bobby Hamilton before beginning his own race career. Lowell Bennett, this year's Miller Nationals winner at the Slinger Speedway, currently stands second in the Red, White and Blue points with 151 while Terry Baldry, a former MARS Series champion, is third with 150.

Sixteen other drivers have a mathmatical chance of winning the title. They include Mike Gardner, 147; Jeff Van Oudenhoven, 141; John Meidam, 140; Rod Wheeler, 137; Jeremy Lepak, 122; Andy Monday, 122; Jamie Iverson, 113; Blake Bjorklund, 110; 12, Terry Korth, 105; Danny Fredrickson, 103; Ryan Manthei, 103; Brian Johnson Jr, 100; Kirby Kurth, 92; Mark Schroeder, 86; Jim Duchow, 82; and Robb VanderLoop, 80.
