OREGON, WI -- The Mid-American and Midwest Super Truck Racing
Series have been comined into one division following several meetings to blend
rules. Both series were begun in 1997 with the Mid-American Super Trucks using
a sportsman style chassis and a 500 horsepower motor. The Midwest Super Trucks,
which have raced primarily Friday nights at Madison International Speedway in
Oregon, WI are built on a late model style chassis with a 400 horsepower sealed
motor. Weight will be added to the Midwest Super Trucks so they will more closely
math the Mid-American Super Trucks. Both style trucks will also be using eight-inch
Hoosier 75 tires. The Midwest Truck had been utilizing ten inch tires.
The Mid-American Super Trucks will be invited to compete at
Madison International on Friday nights and the Midwest Super Truck drivers will
be encoursaged to race in series events. All races will continue to be contested
on paved tracks.
The opening race in the Mid-American Super Truck Series will
be at Madison International Speedway Friday night, May 13 with the season running
through Saturday night, Oct. 8 at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem,
WI. The Mid-American schedule is expected to cover five states with one of the
highlighted races Saturday afternoon, August. 27 at The Milwaukee Mile.
"We've had a lot of enthusiasm about the trucks from our
competitors," said Madison International Speedway manager Steve Einhaus
at the recent Rockford Racer's Auction. "We'll avoid any scheduling conflicts
so our drivers can race in the touring series," he added. "We're both
committed to making this work," said Mid-American president Gary Vercauteren.
"There are about 80 super trucks in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota
and we're both trying to get more to turn out at the race track," he concluded.
