STEVE CARLSON WIN 100-LAP MIDWEST ALLSTAR FEATURE AT I-70 SPEEDWAY

ODESSA, MO (May 28th) – Steve Carlson dipped inside Trevor Stewart on lap 32 and went on to win the 100-lap Midwest AllStar Racing Series feature Saturday night at the I-70 Speedway in Odessa, MO.Blake Bjorklund, the 2004 series rookie of the year, pressured Carlson for the lead until lap 72 when he crashed heavily into the turn four wall and slid along the front stretch wall.

Carlson, a many-time ARTGO and NASCAR Touring Series champion, won by several car lengths over two-time MARS Late Model champion Jeff Van Oudenhoven, who scored the victory in the series race in 2004 at I-70 Speedway.Ryan Mathews, fast qualifier Rod Cordon, Dean Cornelius and Nebraska’s top paved track driver Josh Krug rounded out the top six. Jon Knoll, the 2004 I-70 Speedway champion, led the opening two rounds on the high banked half-mile paved oval.   Dave Wilson crashed into the inside front stretch wall to bring out the first caution flag of the event.

Stewart overhauled Knoll and set the pace as Carlson, driving the Gordon Epping CPA Monte Carlo, moved around Mathews for second place on lap 28.  Carlson and Bjorklund both shot inside Stewart on lap 32.   The race went green until Bjorklund’s wreck on lap 72. Steve Barber, driving the only Dodge in the field, scored his eight super truck win of the season in the I-70 / Mid-Am Super Truck Series 50-lap feature. Barber took the lead on lap 16 after some close racing early in the race.  He stretched out a sizeable lead until Dan Ouderkirk spun in turn two on lap 48.   Barber then held of Brandon Jordan and Mark Storlie to take the win.   Storlie, a rookie in the super truck series is a transfer from the Mid-American Stock Car Series.Garrick Holmquest Larry Fitzsimmons and Damon Clevenger completed the top six.

The MARS Late Models and Mid-Am Super Trucks next race Saturday, June. 4th at I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre, MN.

Danny Anders lead the initial laps of the Enduro 15-lap event until Todd Herdman overtook him on lap 4 followed by Tim Barker and Ryun Yazel. Herdman and Barker attempted to check out on the field as Aaron Bathgate, Gary Joslin and Brad Johnson were making their way thru the field towards the front.  Joslin moved from 5th to 2nd by lap 12 and took the lead on lap 14.  As Joslin drove for the checkers it was total kaos in his rear view mirror as a 3-wide finish saw Johnson sneak out a 2nd place finish at the start/finish line followed by Barker, Herdman and Burgoon rounding out the top five.
