Miller and Reuvers win AC Delco/MARS late model twin 50s before big Elko crowd
ELKO, MN -- Joey Miller, ARCA rookie point leader, and Donny Reuvers, one of the hottest Elko Weekly NASCAR drivers, split wins in the ACDelco / MARS twin 50-lap feature races Saturday night at the Elko Speedway in front of the largest Saturday night crowd ever at the 3/8-mile paved oval.
Miller, the fastest qualifier in the 36-car field, grabbed the lead on the 29th lap of the first feature and sped to the win. In the second 50-lapper Miller was moving to the front when he tangled with another car. He was sent to the rear of the field following the incident, but still manged to come through the lineup to finish second in the second 50-lapper. Reuvers was able to hold off Miller and MARS Series regular Dean Cornelius to win the second race which had the closest finish of the night in the late model division. The second 50-lapper had several incidents. Adam Royle, who finished fourth in the first 50-lapper, crashed into the turn four wall early in the second 50. Former NASCAR driver Dick Trickle was involved in a multi-car wreck midway through the second 50-lapper while running fifth. Jonathan Eilen hit the third turn wall hard late in the event after a mechnical failure in the rear end of his car cuased his to the veer out of control in a wild spin into the concrete barrier.
The next Midwest AllStar Racing Series (MARS) 100-lap event will be Saturday night, July 2 at the I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre, MN. The American StockCar League 150 and Mid-Am Super Truck 50 are slated Sunday night, July 3 at I-94 Raceway to finish off a busy racing weekend.
