Brad Mueller headed to MARS

RANDOM LAKE, WI -- Two-time Slinger Speedway late model stock car champion Brad Mueller is headed to MARS. No, he hasn't rented a Mars surface rover. But, he is expanding his 2005 auto racing schedule to include the Midwest AllStar Racing Series (MARS) in addition to his Sunday night trips around the high banked Slinger quarter-mile paved oval.

He will be running an experimental Schwanke fuel injected sealed motor.   "It will be a true test of the sealed motor to take it to a horsepower track Wisconsin International Raceway," Mueller said.   "I
think it's going to be a winner.  It's very smooth like the ASL Series motors," Mueller noted. The Randon Lake driver raced previously in the MARS Series in 1999 and finished fourth overall.  He has also competed in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series where his best finish was a 15th place at The Milwaukee Mile. He looks forward to returning to the Milwaukee Mile for the Sunday, Aug. 28 Governor's Cup race.  "I probably have over 1,000 laps on The Mile," Mueller said.  "Besides the Craftsman Truck I also ran in the 1997 Hooters Pro Cup race there." Mueller's Grand Prix will be sponsored by Go Wireless, Pace American Trailers, Metro Milwaukee Auction, Mueller's Sales and Service and Northside Automotive.

Mueller has a varied racing career that has also included success in go karts and dirt track racing at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth.  He finished as high as second in the season point standings at Plymouth in the sportsman class. He moved into paved track late models in 1994 and immediately earned the Slinger Speedway rookie of the year honors. Mueller is also anticipating racing in the MARS races at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna (June 11, July 23, and Aug. 13). He raced on the WIR D-shaped half-mile in 2000, 2001 and 2002 in the Thursday night Fox River Racing Club events.    In 2002 he was the track point leader, but missed several events while in Russia adopting two children.    "I don't know where I ended up in points, but family came first.   My wife and I now have a son and a daughter," Mueller explained. He has also competed in Sunoco Late Model Series races.  In 2003 he led 220 of 250 laps in the National Short Track Championship in Rockford, IL, but was eliminated in a crash late in the race.

The MARS Series launches Saturday night, May 28 on the very fast I-70 Speedway half-mile oval in Odessa, MO.   "I think we'll be able to figure that place out.   It should be right up my alley.   I hear you
don't have to touch the brake pedal all the way around," Mueller joked.
