MARS 2004 Late Model Rules for 05 season
Competing models 1990 - 2005 American made automobiles only.
No sports cars allowed. Minimum wheel base 102". The MARS Series attempts
to combine the rules of many Midwestern paved tracks. We will make every attempt
to allow you to race in a competitive and safe fashion within the following
guidelines.
Description of various Engines allowed in MARS competition
9 to 1 Compression Aluminum Head Engine
9 to 1 compression with one 2 Bbl. 4412 HOLLEY carb. No modification
other than main jets and removing automatic choke will weigh 2850 pounds at
58/42, or Add 100 pounds for 390-CFM 4 Bbl Holley Model 4150 HP list 6895 with
the choke tower removed, No taper booster (All carbs.must be official approved)
and weigh 2950 58/42. Maximum 1-1/2 inch carb. adapter
plate. Spacer must be perpendicular to base of the carburetor with no taper
or bevel. No
building up of Engine intake.
Aluminum heads, dry sumps, and headers allowed. No aluminum blocks. No Corvette
heads and no 18-degree heads.
Only GM + or - 2 degree from 23 degree. Engine may be moved
back a maximum of 2 inches behind upper ball joint in line with the farthest
spark plug on V-8. No V-6 allowed. Approved cylinder heads only, must have all
numbers / markings on head/intake/block No titanium rods or exhaust valves.
No angle cutting of block. Engine crankshaft must be a minimum of 10 inches
form the ground. 1.5 plug in oil pan under rod journal is mandatory. Note: Owner/Driver
must
provide tools to remove valve springs at the racetrack. NO CARBON FIBER CLUTCHES
ALLOWED.
No anti-freeze. 100.00 fine if found to have anti freeze in
car
2004 season must have a 1 1/2 hole in the pan.
Concept Engine -----------------------
Heads -- Only approved OEM Cast Iron Cylinder heads of stock
configuration allowed. Cylinder head is the Chevy cast iron bowtie part numbers
14011058, 10134392 and casting 14011034. Cylinder heads must be OEM to block
being used. Angle milling is prohibited, valve angle must remain 23 and cylinder
heads must be main stock, valves, rocker studs, head bolts and spark
plugs may not be relocated. No (Combustion chamber may be polished, however
the configuration may not be altered). Minimum CC of the combustion chamber
shall be 62 cc. A three-angle valve job may be done as long as no stones are
used more than 1/8" above the head of the valve; (Bowl cutting is prohibited).
Intake 2.02, exhaust 1.60, maximum allowable valve spring diameter 1.55 inches.
Use of titanium valves prohibited. All original cylinder head identification
markings must remain as original. Only approved rocker arms allowed maximum
ratio 1.6 to 1. Shaft type rocker arms are prohibited. No more than 0.010 of
an inch may be removed from any surface o the combustion chamber. The cylinder
head to block surface
may be machined a maximum of 0.050" from OEM. No angle milling. Any evidence
of chemical treating, acid dripping, acid flowing, abrasive blasting or other
alterations to the original as cast in form or the addition of material to the
ports or combustion chamber will cause those cylinder heads to be declared illegal.

Concept Engine PISTONS
Flat top pistons only - no part of piston may protrude above top of cylinder.
Maximum compression ratio 10.8 to 1 (a ratio of 10.9 to 1 or higher will not
be allowed). Maximum Engine displacement for GM and Ford is 358 C.I. inches,
Dodge will be 360 C.I. and Minimum 350 C.I. for GM, 351 C.I. for Ford and Dodge
will be 360 C.I.
Concept Engine MANIFOLDS
Any production type intake manifold allowed - provided it is readily available
to all competitors from local race part suppliers. (Maximum cost $350.00) Maximum
height of manifold is 7" (including any carb spacer and gaskets) the manifold
height will be measured from the base of carb to top of cylinder block. Only
one flat gasket with a maximum of .120 may be used
between intake manifold and cylinder head - no spacer or wedge type gaskets
allowed. No additional material may be added to manifold. No grinding or polishing
of any part of the manifold - except you may match port the runners a maximum
of 1".
Concept Engine CARBURETOR
One carburetor only. Must be official approved. Any 4412 Holley 2 Bbl. 500 cfm
Holley, or add 100 pounds for each carburetor upgrade with an approved Holley
750 or 390-CFM 4 Bbl.Holley Model 4150 HP list 6895 No tapered booster Carburetor
will be permitted stock carburetor with choke tower removed is approved (Except
4412 2 Bbl.).
Concept Engine CAMSHAFT
Only flat tappet cam with stock diameter lifters allowed. Rollers cams will
be allowed in 2bbl engines in 2003 if the heads meet these guide lines without
any weight penalty. Max lift on roller cam .625. No mushroom type lifters. Inlayed
cams are prohibited. Maximum rocker ratio 1.6 to 1. Rev kits of any type are
prohibited. Only steel push rods (Titanium, aluminum or graphite are prohibited).
Concept Engine CONNECTING RODS
Only MARS approved steel rods allowed. No titanium, aluminum, graphite or
stainless steel rods or rods using 3/8" bolts are prohibited.
Concept Engine BLOCKS
Must be standard factory production cast iron. (Only 010 or bowtie approved).
No aluminum blocks permitted. No altering of Engine block permitted. Maximum
cylinder bore diameter 4.040 inches.* No lighting of blocks after the 2004 season.
Concept Engine CRANKSHAFT
Standard steel type only, Minimum allowed weight of 43 Lbs. Stock angle crankshaft
allowed. Lite weight, knife-edge, undercut counter weight crankshaft are prohibited.
No Honda journal crankshafts after the 2004 season.
INSPECTION
A 1.5 plug must be installed in the oil pan for inspection purposes. This hole
must be directly under or side of the rod journal. If a windage tray is used,
a hole must be provided in line with the hole in the oil pan.1 1/2 hole for
the 2004 season. Cylinder heads removal after may be required for inspection
purposes.
NON - COMPLIANCE WITH THE SPECIFICATION OUTLINE HEREIN WILL SUBJECT THE PARTICIPANTS
(OWNER/DRIVER) TO DISQUALIFICATION, LOSS OF MONIES AND POINTS EARNED AT THE
EVENT. FURTHERMORE THE OWNER WILL BE FINED up to $5000 AND ALL NON - COMPLYING
COMPONENTS WILL BE SEIZED BY THE Series INSPECTOR OWNER/DRIVER MUST PROVIDE
TOOLS TO REMOVE VALVES.
ALL PARTS THAT ARE FOUND TO BE NON COMPLYING COMPONENTS WILL BE SEIZED CARBS,HEADS,BODY PARTS,BRAKES (ALL)
PROTEST FEES
$100, P&G and compression test any 4 cylinders, rocker arms and push rods.
$500, One cylinder head removal an inspection (ports, valves size, Cc's in head
or runners, bore and stroke, visual inspect cam, measure lifter size.
$100, Simple connecting rod and crankshaft inspection, via inspection holes.
$1000, Remove Engine from car, remove oil pan, check connecting rods and remove
crankshaft for weighing.
25% of the protest fee (Not to exceed $250) will be retained by the inspector,
the remaining balance of the fee will go to the winner of the protest. The series
has the right to take apart any Engine that they feel necessary. Failure to
obey direction or order of a bonafide race official will result in disqualification,
loss of monies and points earned at that race, plus a fine.

Rocker 1.6 Max. No shaft rocker arms except on Mopar Engines. Magnetic steel
lifters---No ceramic lifters---No rollerized camshaft journals. Can rebush lifter
bore. Must retain stock lifter for that Engine---Cam journals must be stock
for Engine Mechanical Lifters total lift.600 inches.
Steel or Titanium Valve Spring Retainers OK. May have one extra water line per

4.5 Minimum Clutch ---NO CARBON FIBER CLUTCH. Don*t forget the 1.5 inch hole
in pan for inspection. All changes to the concept Engine short block as we know
it, will have to be approved prior to doing it. NO COMPOSITE MATERIALS may be
used any where on the Engine Including VALVE COVERS, PAN OR OTHER Engine PARTS!!!!
Any changes, deviations, or modifications to any part of cylinder heads,intakes,
be considered
legal. If your Engine does not conform to these rules, see a tech official to
get a weight change before the car is raced. After the race is too LATE!!!

$2300.00 THESE HEADS .. AS IS .. OUT OF BOX STOCK...NO CUTTING, PORT MATCHING
GRINDING, OR BLASTING OF ANY KIND !!! INTAKES PORT MATCHING IS PERMITTED 1 INCH
MAXIMUM. ALL BLOCKS MUST BE STOCK APPEARING AND MUST BE IRON VALVE JOB: CUTTING
ON SEAT ONLY, NO RESHAPING OF VALVE GUIDES OR CUTTING THEM DOWN INSTALL EXTRA
WATER INLETS ONE PER HEAD ( If needed ) ONLY ONE GASKET BETWEEN HEAD, INTAKE
MANIFOLD, CARB and HEADERS Engine BUILDER, CAR OWNER, and/or DRIVER MUST HAVE

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF THINGS GO WRONG-------
4 WEEKS OFF AT ALL A.C.E. TRACKS USING A.C.E. HEADS. LOSS OF ALL POINTS
AND MONIES FOR DAY AND ALL POINTS FOR YEAR. ANY TIME OR AT THE END OF YEAR TOP
3 OR MORE CARS WILL LOSE THEIR HEADS TO BRODIX FOR INSPECTION. ALL MONIES FOR
THAT EVENT AND POINT FUNDS WILL BE HELD UP TILL HEADS ARE RETURNED FROM BRODIX.
We will be also testing fuel injected Schwanke engines and will
be able to run crate engines at some events

2750 pounds for ACE and MARS Iron concept Engines 2850 pounds for the 9-1 engine
with a 2bbl.Holley 4412- 500 CFM A roller cam can be run in 2003 if the heads
meet these guide lines
without any weight penalty. The only way to run roller cam in either an ACE
or Iron engine is with a 2bbl.Holley 4412- 500 CFM carburetor.

tracks this will be mandatory!!! Milwaukee and I 70 !!!! This should be mandatory

Brakes any caliper maybe used under the retail cost of 425.00 list price

type of steel rotors maybe used
Any chassis part from bumper to bumper and wheel to wheel must be steel no other
material may be used THIS INCLUDES BUMPERS AND ALL RT SIDE BARS.
Official Approved perimeter car with 47" roof, 25 lb. Weight
break.
Add 25 lb. for not having a steel fuel cell tub
NASCAR style cell and brackets OK
Template car must have single lever shifter.
All weights must be painted white with car number on them.
Three top finishers will be weighed immediately after leaving the race track.
Those not weighed will not be paid.
Weight allowance
1 pound per lap or otherwise specified. Weights and carbs will be adjusted to
the size of track that we are racing on.

3. Suspension may be either stock, coil over or leaf. No computer or hand operated controlled suspension. No aluminum tubes, titanium axles, cambered rear ends, aluminum rotors, carbon fiber rotors .
4. Body must be mounted on frame so that it is stock appearing. Body components must retain the general contours of stock components and may not be excessively shortened, narrowed, lengthened or deformed. Roof must be centered in relation to body. FULL size roof. No forward air intake for carb. Back end must be enclosed with either metal or solid type enclosure. Enclose rear end of deck lid above bumper -- no holes. No part of body may extend more than 3 inches outside of tires. Maximum overall width is 82 inches (measured from outside of tires or body). Tow hooks required Front and Rear, Must be easily accessible. (25 lb. weight penalty for no tow hooks, second time 50 Lbs., third time 100 Lbs..) ABC bodys must be used complete and not be cut or changed in any way must also have cowl panel to be a complete ABC body ..ABC bodys will be the future of bodys to be used in MARS racing events
5. Mufflers required. Decibels will be checked. Any car not meeting the 98 decibels WILL NOT RACE. Exhaust must exit under the car. (Exhaust outdoor OK if your home track has that rule),,,,,,,,,,,,exhaust may be out the door for the year 2005 only if your home track has that rule .2006 all cars must have exhaust under car
6. Drivers compartment, such as firewall all floorboards and
trunk area must be sealed off with 22 gauge steel or 18 gauge aluminum. NO fuel
lines in drivers compartment. Impact collar required on steering column. 1-1/2"
diameter minimum.
7. Car must have full windshield, plexiglass. (No side windows). 10" maximum
vent window. Window nets are MANDATORY. (large mesh 12" minimum length)
Window nets will fall down and will snap with seat belt snap on top front corner
of window net. All door bars on drivers' side will be plated.MANDATORY.
8. ROLL BARS: Must have full cage welded to the frame including uni-body welds 360 degrees around tubing or all joints and gussets where cut and welded, except where tubing is bent. Four or more bars required on drivers side braced at four points or more perpendicular to cross braces, top bar on left side 29" from ground. Minimum O.D. tubing of 1 3/4 (1.75) inches for roll cage. No tail - pipe tubing is allowed. All roll bars exposed to the driver must be padded. Minimum of three right side door bars. Jack post must be guarded on inside of body. .095 wall tubing recommended. Mark Martin foot protector bars required. All door bars drivers side will be plated.
9. CLAIM / EXCHANGE RULES: 4412 Carburetor $400, Holley 750 or 390-CFM 4 Bbl.Holley Model 4150 HP list 6895 Carburetor $400 and $75.00 plate. Feature claim feature cars, Semi claim semi cars. Anyone wanting to claim a carburetor or plate must have cash or certified check presented to the series technical director within 5 minutes after the feature or semi. Under these claim rules, if you are caught cheating, OR WILL NOT SELL it will result in loss of all pay and points that night.
10. Fuel cells with a high quality rubberized-type bladder (FIA/SPEC/FT-3) is required (No molded plastic) are mandatory. The bladder must be at least 80% foam filled. Fuel cell plates or fuel cell tubs are mandatory. Fuel cell protector plate 1/8" thick steel must be mounted on outside of frame rails. The plates must cover the sides and rear of fuel cell and be official approved. Fuel cell minimum height 11". Fuelcell must be banded both ways with two straps each way. 1 inch minimum straps. Fuel cell tub 1/8" thick steel with one inch lip. Front, bottom, and rear will be one piece. The top of the box will use current 18 or 20 gauge top with on inch by 1/8" straps with two in each direction. Cars without fuel cell tub will add 25 lb. . All fuel cells must have check balls in place. Racing pump fuel ONLY! All fuel must meet specific gravity of said manufacture. 18 gallon fuel cell minimum. We will not stop a 100 lap race because you choose to have a small fuel cell in your car. We will try to make sure every one will finish an event with the fuel in their car and make pit stops mandatory if needed. We also will try not to make pits stops on the fly a part of this series.
11. TIRE RULES (For most MARS events. Any variations will be spelled out on individual race entry forms.) Hoosier 3045 on right side, 3035 on left side. ALL tires must have numbers to run. Maximum rim width 10 inches. MARS Series wheels should be a bright color, silver or white preferred for night-time visibility and safety. Maximum thread width 64 1/2 inches. 17 Lbs. minimum wheel. NO unauthorized treatment to tires of any kind.
12. Fire resistant suits are MANDATORY. Gloves are MANDATORY. SNELL SA-2000 or newer helmet required. All cars must have an operating 5 lb. Fire extinguisher. Head and neck safety device recommended (HANS, HUTCHENS, and SIMPSON)
13. There will be no consuming of alcoholic beverages until your car has passed post inspection. Will lose all points and pay for that event! Driver-Crew-Owner
14. All cars must have 24 inch numbers printed in contrasting colors and be clearly visible to the scorers. Non-members may be required to add a letter to their car number, if there are duplicates. Number should be at least 5 inches wide and centered on doors. Only cars that meet appearance code will receive 25 appearance points per event. Beat up, unpainted and unprofessional looking cars will not be allowed on track. No tire scuff marks. Lettering must be professionally maintained. All cars must run series sponsor windshield decals. Any drivers who wish to eligible for contingency awards and point fund must run front fender decals. Leave primary windshield spot and front fenders open for sponsor decals.
15. Flagman controls the race event. Scorers determine finishing positions. All rules and finishes subject to review by MARS officials. Any disputes of finishing positions must be brought to the attention of MARS series officials within 1 hour of race completion. If a car/driver is disqualified, the remaining cars will not be moved up in finishing positions.
16. All cars are subject to inspection by track officials at any time whether safe or unsafe to complete. MARS Series officials will make final decision whether legal or illegal. If a driver/owner refuses inspection tear down the car and driver will lose all points and pay for that event.
17. Any driver entering or driving in the pit area unreasonably will NOT be paid that night. Any unsportsmanlike action on or off the track may result in suspension from the track or pit area and loss of pay. If you have a >problem controlling your temper, you might consider boxing, wrestling or hockey rather than MOTORSPORTS .
18. To be eligible for special event awards and/or any contingency awards you must have a MARS membership($55), and meet all specified requirements. All cars will run a windshield decal. Leave primary windshield area open for this decal.. Membership cards will also be good for some pit pass discounts at some events.
19. Spoiler/Bodies------Maximum height of rear spoiler from ground, 39-1/2 inches. Maximum width of rear spoiler, 60 inches. Maximum height of rear spoiler 5 inches. Maximum of 90 degree spoiler. No vertical forward gussets (ribs) from rear spoiler. Spoilers, 5" x 60", Maximum Spoiler height 39-1/2".Reminder quarter height left side height will be between 33-1/2 and 34-1/2 inches and the right side height will be between 34 1/2 and 35-1/2 inches. side maximum Spoiler must be approved by MARS Series Officials.
Maximum 10 inch window vent
Bumper covers required.
Impact collar on steering wheel required, 1-1/2" Dia. Minimum.

The MARS Series expects all teams to act professionally and
present their race vehicles professionally. Most events will be paid by check.
Be sure that the series has your current address and social security number
for prompt payment. Notify series office of any address changes and if someone
other than the driver is to receive the purse. Advance entry forms will be mailed
out 2 to 3 weeks prior to each event. The entry form will specify race date
and location, prize money, rule or tire variations and track phone numbers.
Rainout policy varies from track to track. Full or partial payment of posted
purses due to rain is decision of promoter. Rain dates will be negotiated between
promoter and series officials. Call racetrack phone number in event of rainy
weather.
Trophies, point fund money and season long contingency awards
will be presented at series banquet.
Rookie of the year specifications----to be considered for rookie of the year,
you must be a MARS Series member. Rookie candidates may not have previously
finished in the top 15 of MARS Series points. Rookie candidates may not have
raced at a level above the MARS Series. Rookie candidates must notify series
office of their intention
of competing for rookie of the year honors.
Appearance points----Each car meeting MARS Series appearance standards receives
25 points for each event attended. Must display A windshield decal and front
fender decals to receive any series points.

several good things going for it in the new racing group with most of the Midwestern
tracks.
What do we try to do in this racing group. We try to have good close clean racing
with out having to repair our cars weekly. We try to have fun and a good time
if we lose that we will have a hard time to make this sport what it once was
