Labor Day weekend always marks the end of the racing season at Norway Speedway. The defending champions in the Pepsi late model and Auto Value super stock divisions retained their titles while the Wally's slammer division and the Fab-4 division had first time champions crowned.
An early season crash led to Kris Kelly finding himself at a ten to fifteen point deficit throughout the summer to an experienced, consistent Jim Duchow from Appleton, WI. Duchow looked to be on his way to his first championship in the late model division at Norway Speedway when, on lap 11 of the feature, contact with the car of Dale Peterson sent both cars crashing into the backstretch retaining wall. Both cars received heavy damage and were unable to continue. Kelly went on to finish a strong second and win his second straight championship at the speedway.
In the Auto Value super stock division defending champion Ryan Windell continued his dominance of the division by wrapping up his second straight title over 2-time champion Jeff Boettcher. Ryan's season included setting a track qualifying record of 15.778 and he won qualifying 8 times. Ryan also finished 6th place or better in 15 out of the 17 races.
In possibly the most impressive run of any division at the track, Travis Reidell of Menominee won his first championship. Travis won 8 out of 17 feature events and had a point lead large enough to allow him to skip the final race of the season and run impressively with the super stock division.
Gary Dubord Jr. of Escanaba won his first ever championship at the speedway in the Fab-4 division. The young speedster won 9 races but his consistent top 5 finishes were most impressive, finishing in the top 5 in close to every race.
Norway Speedway would like to thank the fans, sponsors, and competitors for one of the most well attended seasons in the track's history. The banquet is October 23rd and will be held at the Legion hall in Norway, MI.
