Plymouth Results - 7/21/07
The grandstands were packed this Saturday night at Plymouth Dirt Track for the Hales Corners reunion night which featured 120 cars in the four weekly racing divisions. The Late Model division was first in the rotation and had a 40 lap A-main, following the Late Models were the Sprints, then the Grand Nationals, and lastly the Outlaw Compacts.
Scott Specht took advantage of a bobble from the Rick Scheffler car in turn 4 picking up the lead in the first of the three heat races last week. Specht racing a new body on the car this week after his hard roll last weekend picks up the win. Frank Smith of Milwaukee, a 41 year veteran picked up the win in the second heat over his son Bobby Smith. While last weeks A-main feature winner Bill Rezutek picked up the win in the third and final heat race for the Late Model division.
George Scheffler of Waukesha picked up the win in the B-main race over Charlie Schmidt of Oostburg. Jim Schmidt of Cleveland finished third, and Joe McGrath finished fourth for the last transfer into the A-main feature.
Points Leader Russ Scheffler kept a fast pace in the 40 lap feature where he lead the flag to flag race and picked up the win and points to pad his point lead. Dan Sorce of Franklin followed him to the flag and finished second. Rick Scheffler of Waukesha was third, Scott Specht of Sheboygan Falls was fourth, and Craig Schueffner of Sheboygan Falls rounded out the top five. It was a record setting pace for the Late Model division; the race was completed 10 minutes and 54 seconds.
With 41 sprint cars there were five sprint car heat races on the night. Brian Johnson of Kewaskum picked up the first heat race win over Mayville's Rob Pribnow. Tim Haddy of Waupun beat rookie Ben Schmidt of Plymouth to the line in the second heat race. Brothers Tim and Jim Melis finished 1-2 in the third heat in the sprint division, Tim keeping his No. 9 to the point for the race after starting on the pole. Lance Fassbender of Burnett chased down leader Terry Marten after starting dead last in the field in the fourth heat race, but couldn't quite catch the leader, Marten went on to win the fourth heat race after starting outside pole. Danny Schlafer picked up his 80th carreer win in the fifth and final heat race.
Tony Wondra of Campbellsport beat Scott Conger and Kenjay Fiedler of Sheboygan Falls in the first of two B-mains for the Sprints, all three cars would tranfer into the A-main. While in the second B-main, Michael Emme of Manitowoc found himself at the point after point leader Travis Luedke couldn't get his car refired after a caution. Emme picked up the win, Earl Possi was second, and Leroy Ostrowski finished third.
It was young gun Rob Pribnow to the point after starting fifth in the feature, Pribnow would go on to win the race over Troy Wondra of Lomira. Terry Marten of Sheboygan Falls was third, Tim Haddy of Waupun was fourth, and Danny Schlafer was fifth.
Marc Caswel of Franklin picked up the first Grand National Heat race win with Paul Perronne of Plymouth following him to the line for second. Brian Genske the 2006 PDT champion beat Brad Dahmer of Sheboygan in the second heat race.Don Sorce Jr of West Allis picked up the third heat race's checkers over Bob Cullen. In the fourth and final heat race, Mark Fieber of Cascade grabbed the win over Belgium driver Scott Houpt.
Greg Kempf of Kiel took a tumble on the backstretch during the third heat race, he was ok, and came back to race and finish fourth in the first of two B-main features for the Grand Nationals. Shane Heany of Milwaukee picked up the win and the first of two transfers from that race. Dave Holm of Kewaskum picked up the second transfer with a second place finish. In the second B-main, Tim Warner of Malone picked up the win and with Mark Scholten of Random Lake following him to the flag for the two transfer positions into the A-main feature.
In the 25 lap A-main, Brad "the Bullet" Dahmer picked up the feature win with Elkhart Lakes Brad Lubach right behind him in second. "Uncle" Brian Kaat of Plymouth was third, Don Source Jr. of West Allis was fourth, and Scott Houpt rounded out the top five for the feature.
In the Outlaw Compact division, Corey Edler of Cascade picked up the first heat race win over Corey Peters,. Jay Riemer of Sheobygan Falls beat Steven Weber in the second heat race, and Jason Juech of West Bend picked up another checkered flag in the third heat race over Chris Baumann of Elkhart Lake.
Chris Baumann picked up the feature win over Jay Riemer for the Outlaws 15 lap A-main feature. Jason Juech was third, Steven Weber fourth, and Corey Edler was fifth.
Next weekend, July 28, all children attending the races aged 11 and under will recieve a free autograph book, after intermission the books will be sold for $2.00 while supplies last. August 4th will be the official autograph night, the pits will be opened at the conclusion of the race for fans to get the drivers' autographs.
Plymouth Dirt Track continues its weekly racing program next weekend. Gates open at 4:30 with racing to start immediately follwing the opening ceremony at 6:00. Tickets are $10.00 for adults.
