Plymouth Speedway Dirt Track August 4th, 2007
(Plymouth) Rain threatened the Saturday night show at Plymouth Dirt Track, and even canceled events at tracks south of the area, including the World of Outlaws Sprints at Beaver Dam. But there was a full night of racing action at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds.
Brad Dahmer of Sheboygan Falls passed Brian Kaat of Plymouth with a handful of laps remaining in the the 25 lap A-main feature in the Grand National Division. Dahmer went on to win with Kaat finishing second. Jeremy Sauter of Random Lake came back from a sixteenth place starting position to finish third. Greg Haese, who was filling in the No. 5 car for Brad Mueller, was fourth, and Doug Teunissen of Sheboygan Falls rounded out the top five for the feature.
In the B-main, Jason Roe of Sheboygan picked up the win for the first of four transfer positions for the race. Bob Cullen was second, Matt Yancey of Sheboygan Falls was third, and Tony MIller of Random Lake was fourth for the final transfer into the A-main feature.
Phil Coppersmith won the first heat race over Brian Genske of Cleveland. Doug Teunnissen beat Brad Dahmer to the line in the second heat race. In the third heat race, Luke Scholten of Oostburg beat Greg Haese. In the fourth and final heat race for the Grand National division, Jason Dyer of New Holstein picked up the checkers over Greg Kempf of Kiel.
In the Late Model division, Russ Scheffler had a rocket for the A-main feature, grabbing the lead in the early stages of the race and stretching his lead to almost half a lap over second place. Kyle Odekirk of Waldo and Bill Rezutek of Big Bend found themselves in heavy traffic while racing for second. Odekirk would get the position with Rezutek in a close third. Scott Specht of Sheboygan Falls finished fourth, and Ron Stroika of Mukwanago was fifth.
In the first of two heat races for the late models, Kyle Odekirk paced the field for the win over Dan Sorce of Franklin. While Scott Specht picked up the checkers over Ron Stroika in the second heat race for the division.
Al Schlafer of Sussex proved to be top dog of the night in the Sprint car division with the win in the A-main feature over Earl Possi of Escanaba, MI. challenged multiple times for the lead, but couldn't quite get it done for the feature. Terry Marten of Sheboygan Falls chased down the leaders to finish third. Rob Pribnow of Mayville finished fourth, and Lance Fassbender of Burnett was fourth.
In B-main action, Michael Emme of Manitowoc won the first of two with Josh Walter of Plymouth close behind for second, and Jack Parrish finished third. All three transferring into the A-main. In the second B-main, Leroy Ostrowski of Milwaukee picked up the win over Mark Wernes Jr of Mukwanago and Doug Wondra of Oakfield for the three transfer spots into the feature.
There were 40 cars in the sprint division featured in four heat races as well as the two B-mains, and the 25 lap feature. Al Schlafer picked up the win over Brian Portschy of Oostburg for the first of the heat races. Rob Pribnow beat Lance Fassbender to the line in heat race number 2. Tim Melis of Plymouth grabbed the checkers in the third heat race over Ken Jay Fielder of Sheboygan Falls. And in the fourth and final heat for the Sprints, Jason Johnson of Kewaskum beat Tim Haddy of Waupun.
In the Outlaw Compact division, Jason Juech of West Bend did what he does best in a car putting it at the point in the feature with hard charger Jay Riemer of Sheboygan Falls right on his bumper. Juech stuck to his line and picked up the win. Riemer finished second, Jeremy Miller of Sheboygan Falls was third, Corey Peters of Glenbuelah was fourth, and Shaun Markwardt rounded out the top five in the No. 2 team car for the feature.
Kurt Jakubowski of Sheboygan Falls picked up the win in the first of two heats for the Outlaw Compacts over Jason Voss of Plymouth. While Brian Dyke of Sheboygan kept Jay Riemer at bay for the win in the second heat race.
Plymouth Dirt Track racing continues its 2007 racing season next weekend on. Tickets are $10. The gates open at 4:30 p.m. and racing starts promptly after the opening ceremony at 6:00 p.m..
