Haese goes 2-0, Atkinson Holds off the Scheffler Calvary, Johnson Captures Win
By Eric Mueller

(Plymouth, WI)---- After a week off for the Sheboygan County fair, the clouds cleared in the morning and made way for a clear night of racing this past Saturday night, at the Plymouth Dirt track.

The Sprint cars hit the track first on the evening with, Shane Wenninger, Earl Posse, Oostburg's Brian Portschy and Al Schlafer all capturing heat race checkered flags.

Then onto the twin  B-mains,  where Josh Walter of Plymouth would win, Lance Fassbender second and Brian Johnson, third in the first "B" and then Multi Time Plymouth Champion Pete Ostrowski captured race 2, followed to the line by Danny Schlafer and Mark Wernes,  all having raced their way into the show.

In the Evenings A-Main, Andy Klumb with Jason Johnson alongside would lead the field to the green with Klumb spinning in front of the field early on and he would fade to finish 19th.  Johnson jumped out front from the Green and quickly made his way to the bottom, but the race was on early as Earl Posse and TJ Luedke of Plymouth would start deep in the field and both of them made steady progress towards the front. Posse and Luedke would race wing to wing for second behind Johnson with a yellow coming out, Creating a Green –white-Checkered finish due to time limit.  But with just two laps to go, the restart would set up Posse on the high side for the restart.  Posse would make quick work of Luedke at the green and working over Johnson on the outside but Johnson was able to hold off the Escanaba Flyer at the checkered flag to win his first career A-Main. Johnson said in victory lane, "This is just awesome, I wish we could have gone the whole distance but a win is a win!" Posse would go to finish second, followed by Luedke, Sheboygan Falls KenJay Fiedler and Al Schlafer of Sussex. Luedke remains in the points lead by 52 over Danny Schlafer who collapsed a front end early on in the event.

In the Grand National Division,   Heat race action saw Jeremy Sauter of Random Lake, Brad Mueller of Random Lake, Brian Kaat of Plymouth and Elkhart Lake's Brad Lubach all winners.

Not to be outdone by the sprints, twin B-Mains would not disappoint as Jestin Danes and Dave Holm would finish first and second respectively, and Brad Dahmer and Bob Cullen would all transfer from the B-mains into the main event.

The 25 lap Grand National A-Main, would go green but only for a lap as the yellow would fly for a multi-car crash in turn 3. Point leader Brad Mueller slowed with a blown head gasket, and would retire later on lap five. The race would be for the lead early as pole sitter Gregg Haese, Brian Genske and Luke Scholten would all race door to door in the opening laps with Genske settling into second spot, Scholten would later fade to fourth with former track champion Brad Lubach passing him on lap 17.   That's how the race would end, with Haese winning his second consecutive feature, Genske in second, with Lubach, Scholten and Chad Rathke rounding out the top five.  Sauter, who was sitting second in points, had at times gone three wide to gain positions and move up to 6th spot.  Sauter said afterwards "I saw that Brad pulled off and new I had to stay consistant and get a good finish."  Sauter would stay in sixth at the checkered flag. Just enough to take the points lead by 4 going into next Saturday's championship night over Mueller.

In the Late Model Division, heat race action was captured by Tim Carmen of Sheboygan Falls, Randy Markwardt of Sheboygan, Scott Sohrweide of Chilton and Billy Rezutek of Big Bend.

The Late Model B-Main was won by defending track champion Dan Sorce, followed by Charlie Schmidt of Oostburg, Matt Buckman of Plymouth and Melissa Singer of Waldo.

The 25 Lap A-Main,  Ron Eiler and Al Atkinson, lead the charge to the green, and Atkinson would get the lead down the backstretch on lap 2, Markwardt and Russ Scheffler would go into door to door racing for several circuits until Scheffler would get by and go into third by lap 8 on the outside.  After a yellow, Atkinson with Eiler and Scheffler in tow, would take the green with Rick Scheffler getting by Markwardt for fourth and then by Eiler for third after one go around,  Markwardt would break on lap 13, allowing Scott Specht of Sheboygan Falls into the top five.  Lap 17 saw lap traffic getting into the mix and on lap 21, after Russ Scheffler and Rick Scheffler both tried several times to go on the outside to get around the Milwaukee Madman, they went four wide around a lapped car to settle the event.  Atkinson would hold of the charge, and with a smile in victory lane said "this is just great to be back here, the fans are great and this is a fun place to race." Atkinson was followed by Russ Scheffler in second, Rick Scheffler in third, Scott Specht Fourth and Ted Dolhun, Sr. rounding out the top five.    Russ Scheffler holds a 71 point lead over Specht for next weeks Championship finale.

The Outlaw Compact heat races were won by Shaun Marquardt, and Jason Juech. The 15 lap outlaw compact feature was lead from the green by Chris Baumann of Elkhart Lake, and Jay Reimer of Sheboygan Falls, and as they pulled away the battle was on in back three wide at times two rows deep for 3rd through 8th, Baumann would go onto win with Reimer holding second spot, Jason Juech, Shaun Marquardt, and Curtis Moehring rounding out the top five.  After the conclusion of the race, the team of Jeremy Miller/Cory Edler are tied with Jay Reimer for the points lead heading into next week.
