It was the regular weekly divisions season opener at The Raceway at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam, WI on Saturday night and one hundred and thirty eight cars jammed the pit area ready for action.
Jay Schraufnagel of Beaver Dam jumped into the lead from the pole position and led the rest of the way in capturing the Shaver Builders & Home Improvement Modified 20-lap A-Main. It was no walk away for Schraufnagel, however, as a caution on lap sixteen bunched up the field. This put Russ Reinwald of Iron Ridge, who had moved up from his third row starting spot, into a position to challenge Schraufnagel for the lead. On the restart Schraufnagel continued to lead with Reinwald hanging tight. The two raced together and on the final lap as the pair exited turn four, Reinwald found some room on the inside and made his bid for the lead. In the drag to the checkered flag it was Schraufnagel who came across the line first to take the win. Frank Firari of Lowell moved up from the fifth row to finish in third. Larry Zirbel of Iron Ridge drove to fourth ahead of Eddie Lemay Jr. of Milwaukee. Race results for the modified A-Main were unofficial at the time of this press release due to a pending technical ruling. The Johnsonville Sausage Wisconsin Dirt Late Model Association made their first of nine appearances at the raceway this season. Tim Lemirande of Verona grabbed the lead at the start of the 25-lap A-Main and was hotly pursued by Russ Scheffler of Pewaukee. After repeatedly trying to get by on the inside, Scheffler took to the high route to get around Lemirande on lap eleven and then pulled away for the win in the caution free event. Jim Zdroik of Big Bend drove to third. Scott Cramer of Random Lake came from the back of the pack to finish in fourth. Pete Parker of Kaukauna followed in fifth.
Tim Doehling of Winneconne out battled Don Source Jr. of West Allis to score the win in the Northwoods Paper Converting Grand Nationals division. Roger Lee of Wind Lake moved up to finish in third. Fourth place went to Troy Weich of Fond du Lac. Tommy Moore of Muskego followed in fifth. Tobey Britton of Slinger rolled his ride on lap eighteen of the event.
In the Dodge Central Credit Union Stocks 20-lap A-Main, Don Vander Galien of Wautoma moved into the lead on lap seventeen and went onto score the win. Dan Troyan of Menomonie Falls picked his way up through traffic to finish in second. Nate Schepp of Beaver Dam also worked his way up to take third. Jasper Drengler of Shawano drove to fourth. Mike Murray of Beaver Dam, who led much of the way, finished in fifth.
In action in the Wally’s Auto Dirt Devils division, Josh Schmitt of Juneau edged ahead of Roger Frank of Beaver Dam on lap fourteen to take over the lead. Schmitt then held off Frank to claim the win. Ron Koenig of Fox Lake, who led the opening lap, followed Schmitt and Frank across the line to finish in third. Tim Draheim of Beaver Dam came from the sixth row to take fourth ahead of Jeremy Schwoch of Waupun.
The Gibbsville Cheese Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series A-Main saw Joel Wyttenbach of Sauk City charge from the sixth row and race to the win. Wyttenbach overtook Eric Barth of Sauk City on lap fourteen of the fifteen lap event. Warren Ropp of Kalona, IA moved up from row five to finish a strong third. Adam Reed of Slinger followed in fourth ahead of Aaron Rake of Beaver Dam.
