In action on WXRO/WBEV Radio Race Night at the Raceway at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam, WI on Saturday night, Jay Schraufnagel of Beaver Dam raced to the win in the 20-lap Shaver Builders & Home Improvement Modifieds A-Main. The win makes Schraufnagel two for two for the season as he took the season point opener win the previous Saturday. Russ Reinwald of Iron Ridge grabbed the lead at the start of the event. Schraufnagel, who started outside row five, moved up quickly and was running in second by lap six. Three laps later Schraufnagel slipped past Reinwald and pulled away enroute to the win. Reinwald remained in second the rest of the way. Chris Piquette of Random Lake had an impressive run as he finished in third after starting in the eighteenth position. Andy Voigt of Beaver Dam also had a strong run as he recovered from an early race incident to finish in fourth. Eddie Lemay Jr. of Milwaukee picked his way through traffic to take fifth.
Roger Lee of Wind Lake charged from the fifth row to take over the lead on lap seven and cruised to the win in the Northwoods Paper Converting Grand Nationals 20-lap A-Main. In a race long battle for second, John Schultz III of Milwaukee beat Kevin Rank of Ripon and Don Sorce Jr. of West Allis. Dan Schumacher of Milwaukee ran well and finished in fifth.
Two-time Powercom Speedzone champion Jerry Kope of Oshkosh made his trip to the Raceway at Powercom Park worthwhile as he drove to victory in the 20-lap Dodge Central Credit Union Stocks A-Main. Kope took over the lead on lap twelve after an intense battle with Jasper Drengler of Shawano and early race leader Mike Nehmer of Larsen. Drengler and Nehmer finished second and third. Don Vander Galien of Wautoma drove to fourth ahead of Mike Murray of Beaver Dam.
Starting sixteenth, Jon Schultz of Belleville rocketed toward the front and was in third by lap five of the 20-lap Wally’s Auto Dirt Devils A-Main. One lap later, Schultz was into second. Race leader Mike Mueller of Waupun developed suspension problems and Schultz took over the lead on lap seven as Mueller skidded to a stop in turn two. Once back under green, Schultz powered his way to the win. Josh Schmitt of Juneau followed up his win from last week with a strong second place finish. Jeremy Schwoch of Waupun battled his way to a third place finish. Ron Koenig of Fox Lake followed in fourth. Tim Draheim of Beaver Dam fought his way back up through the field to finish in fifth after having problems while running in second on lap one.
Aaron Rake of Beaver Dam powered his way into the lead in only one lap after starting outside row three of the Gibbsville Cheese Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series 20-lap A-Main. It would not be easy for Rake, however, as Sauk City drivers Eric Barth and Joel Wyttenbach moved up from the fifth row into second and third by lap ten. Barth and Wyttenbach set sail for Rake while engaged in their battle for second. It didn’t take long for Barth and Wyttenbach to put the pressure on Rake for the top spot. Rake was determined to stay out in front and held his line to cross the line in first. Wyttenbach followed in second with Barth taking the third position. Kevin Brill of Oostburg had a strong run finishing in third ahead of Greg Hartlaub of Sheboygan Falls.
B-Main wins were registered by Larry Zirbel of Iron Ridge and Billy Lemay of Lannon in the modifieds and by Jon Schultz in the dirt devils.
Modified heat race victories were taken by Mike Sandholm of Oconomowoc, Dan Tafelski of West Allis, Jay Schraufnagel, Russ Reinwald and Mike Meeker of Mazomanie.
