In action at The Raceway at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam, WI on Saturday night, row six seemed to be the place to start as both drivers would finish one & two in the 20-lap Shaver Builders & Home Improvement Modified A-Main. Russ Reinwald of Iron Ridge would charge his way through the pack quicker, but it would be Jay Schraufnagel of Beaver Dam who would take the checkered flag first.
Joe McGrath of Neosho grabbed the lead at the start of the event. Unfortunately for McGrath things went the other way from there on out. Reinwald sliced through the traffic with ease and on lap four he powered his way by McGrath to take over the lead. Shraufnagel soon moved into second and began to challenge Reinwald for the lead. As the field was working lap ten, Schraufnagel slipped by Reinwald to move out in front only to have the caution flag wave for a crash by McGrath into the front straight wall. With lap nine the last completed lap scored, Reinwald was moved back out in front for the restart. Back under green, Reinwald led with Schraufnagel once again working to find a way to get back out in front. On lap twelve Schraufnagel again got by Reinwald to take over the lead. Three more cautions would stop the action with the last occurring on lap fifteen. In the five lap dash to the finish, Schraufnagel was hotly pursued by Reinwald. Schraufnagel would stay out in front and go onto to pick up his third win of the season at The Raceway. Larry Zirbel of Iron Ridge ran strong and finished in third. Andy Voigt moved up from the fifth row to take fourth. Brian Crapser of Milwaukee ran well and drove to fifth.
Don Sorce Jr. of West Allis raced from his fourth row starting position to take over the lead from Dave Gorny of West Allis on lap five of the 20-lap Northwoods Paper Converting Grand Nationals A-Main. Sorce was quickly joined by Roger Lee of Wind Lake. Sorce stayed out in front with Lee repeatedly making attempts to take over the top spot. The efforts paid off for Lee as he was able to find enough room on the inside on lap seventeen to get by Sorce and race to his second win of the season. Gorny followed in third. Steve Seitz of Beaver Dam drove to fourth ahead of Tommy Moore of Muskego.
Jerry Winkler of Oshkosh led from start to finish in capturing the 20-lap Dodge Central Credit Union Stocks A-Main. Brent Lepple of Beaver Dam ran near the front all through the race and finished in second. Nate Schepp of Beaver Dam moved up to cross the line in third ahead of Ken Feavel of Oshkosh. Don Vander Galien of Wautoma picked his way through traffic to finish in fifth.
Joel Wyttenbach of Sauk City picked up his second win of the season as he drove to victory in the 20-lap Gibbsville Cheese Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series A-Main. Darwin Banes of Beaver Dam, who led early in the event, ran strong to finish in second. Warren Ropp of Kalona, IA drove to third ahead of Kevin Brill of Oostburg. Joe Johnson of Slinger followed in fifth.
Eddie Lemay III of Milwaukee took over the lead from Kevin Schutz of Madison on lap five and drove to his first win in the 20-lap Wally’s Auto Dirt Devils A-Main. Tim Draheim of Beaver Dam charged from way back in the pack to finish a strong second. The finish enabled Draheim to take over the lead in the point standings. Aaron Stolp of Milwaukee ran near the front and was third at the drop of the checkered flag. Scott Baake of Milwaukee followed in fourth. Cody Allard of Waupun ran a good race and claimed the fifth spot. Mike Mueller of Waupun walked away from a wild ride when his car rolled several times in turn three in the early going of the event.
Frank Firari of Lowell raced to the win in the modified B-Main. Eddie Lemay Jr. of Milwaukee was second. Steve Kloehn of Waukau was third.
Heat race wins were recorded by Brian Crapser, Larry Zirbel, Russ Reinwald and Jay Schraufnagel in the modifieds. Roger Lee and Nathan Persha of Iron Ridge were victorious in the grand national heats. Stock heat race wins went to Jerry Winkler and Brent Lepple. Joe Surprise of Beaver Dam and Warren Ropp registered wins in the legends heats. Kevin Schutz, Mike Mueller and Roger Frank of Beaver Dam took home wins in the dirt devils heats.
