Shawano Speedway Gets Back to Normal After Midweek Special
Dave Buss

Just a few days after arguably the largest crowd in many years saw the World of Outlaws Late Models put on a show at the famed half mile it was back to normal. Local favorites were again center stage and exciting the fans. The Bud Lynn Memorial races would take place to remember a long time driver and good friend of the track.

Brett Swedberg would make an impressive high line pass in the opening corner to take the lead in the Fastrak Late Model feature event. Jeff Curtin would move to second with Cody Welch third. Caution would fly on lap five as debris would be on the track. Under caution Welch headed to pit lane for a flat tire. On the restart, Swedberg would be joined up front by David Fieber. Swedberg would build up another large lead just two laps later. Debris would once again slow action bringing the field back together. Swedberg would once again escape the field and run away. Fieber would be the car to watch though as he would reel in Swedberg and with five to go move past on the inside. Fieber would set his cruise control and drive away to the win. Swedberg would finish second with Curtin and Justin Hirt rounding out the top four.

The IMCA Sport Mod feature event would have the looks of a snoozer early as Cory Hudson ran away for the first nine laps before caution swiped his lead to nothing. On the restart, Matt Oreskovich and Tracy Wassenberg would line up behind Hudson for a six lap shootout. Oreskovich and Wassenberg would each take a side as they went three wide through one and two with Wassenberg claiming the top spot. Wassenberg would hold off a hard charging Clint Forstner for the win with Oreskovich third.

The IMCA Modified feature would find Eric Scribner going to the front on lap one with Lance Arneson moving to second.  Scribner and Arneson would break free and build a nice cushion over a great battle for third between Jerry Wilinski and Jason Czarapata. Arneson would make a run at Scribner only getting to his back bumper each time as laps went by. Arneson would remain in Scribner’s tire tracks lap after lap. A late caution would shake things up as Czarapata, who had been charging forward was entered into the battle. Mechanical issues would end Czarapata’s night early as Scribner would drive on to the win with Arneson, Eddie Muenster and Brandon Czarapata rounding out the top four.

The WISSOTA Late Model feature would take the track with MJ McBride bringing the field to the line. Troy Springborn would rocket from his second row starting spot to the lead on lap one. Gordie Seegert would take over the top the spot on lap six making his way around Springborn on the outside. Seegert would begin to extend his lead and at the half way point lead by ten car lengths. Springborn would settle into second with Ron Berna in third. Justin Ritchie would make his way into the top five with seven laps remaining. Chris Oertel would regain fifth a few laps later. Seegert would take the checkers with Springborn, Berna, Craig Bartz, and Oertel filling the top five.

What a way to end the night, the always exciting IMCA Stock Car feature event rounded out action for the night. Greg Gutt would take the point after an exciting early few laps. Gutt would be hounded by Rod Snellenberger for a few laps before Snellenberger grabbed the lead out of turn four. A lap five caution would line the field with Snellenberger leading, Gutt and Junior Karcz would line up in row two. Snellenberger would once again take command of the race as Gutt and Tony Seefeldt would battle for second after Karcz was forced to pit with a flat tire. Snellenberger would drive to an easy victory as the action behind remained fierce with Barry Van Straten, Gutt, Shawn Wagner and Brandon Czarapata battling for second. In the end Van Straten would take second with Gutt and Czarapata finishing in the top four.
