Schill Victorious In 60th Anniversary Special presented by Goemans Rapid Mart!!!
By John Wiedemann

(Slinger, WI) July 15 —  Al Schill chased down leader Lowell Bennett to win the Goemans Rapid Mart 75 at Slinger Super Speedway Sunday night.  With under ten laps to go in the race, the Slinger veteran made his move and went on to capture his second win of the season on a night celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the speedway.

Taking the lead on the opening lap of the Goemans Rapid Mart 75, Lowell Bennett looked to have the contest in hand as the race ran without a caution flag.  As Bennett ran at the front, Al Schill methodically picked off spots, moving into second with twenty laps on the scoreboard.  Lapped traffic came into play and Schill moved closer and closer to Bennett until, with ten laps left in the race, Schill was on Bennett’s bumper.  When Bennett opened the door in turn one, Schill took advantage and grabbed the lead.   Bennett held on to second, followed by Fred Winn.  David Prunty charged through the pack to finish fourth with Dale Prunty coming home fifth.

“I didn’t think I was gonna get there but, I kept seeing Lowell get bigger and bigger and that’s a good sign,” explained Schill.  “But, it wasn’t happening for a long time.  He was getting looser and looser and I needed the laps that I had left to get him.”

Jerry Eckhardt started the Limited Late Model feature on the pole and spent most of the race holding off Chris Ratajczyk.  With the race slowed by caution twice, restarts put the two side by side to continue their battle.  Eckhardt held the spot from the bottom of the track and went on to win leading flag to flag.  Derek Thorn was able to take the second spot away as the race wound down, leaving Ratajczyk to finish in third.

Paul Konechnee took the lead on the first lap of the Thunder Stock feature and led the first couple laps until a caution bunched up the field.  On the resulting restart Aaron Cain went around the outside of Konehnee and took over the point.  Cain pulled away as fast-timer Seth Lootens worked on Konehnee for the second spot.  A second caution slowed the field when Jerry Kulas Jr. got together with David Krinn sending Krinn spinning in front of the leaders.  Working the inside line Lootens took the second spot away from Konehnee after the green flag flew.  Cain took the checkers followed to the line by Lootens and Konehnee.

Quick qualifier Jared Apel of Colgate took the lead on the third lap of the Slinger Bees feature and pulled away from the pack.  Jesse Knutson grabbed the second position followed by Chester Ace.  The fifteen lap race ran caution free with Apel taking the victory.  Ace took second place away from Knutson but could not catch the leader.  Third went to CJ Corallini with Knutson and Brandon Wolf rounding out the top five.

Roy Aitchison brought the Midwest Modifieds to the green of the twenty-five lap feature but, Steve Huelsbeck snuck underneath to take the top spot away.  Steve Schultz followed Huelsbeck to assume the second position.  After a caution for a Russ Moberly’s spin in turn three, Schultz grabbed the lead on the restart brining Wes Biswell along to second.  While Biswell and Huelsbeck battled side by side, Schultz ran off with the win.  Huelsbeck retook the second position and held off Biswell’s advances to finish in the runner-up spot.  Biswell, Aitchison, and Joe Houpt finished off the top five.

Jeff Holz, starting from the fourth position, moved into the lead on lap three and ran away to win the Midwest Sportsman feature.  Ken Joosten moved up from the back of the pack to finish second followed by Jay Shambeau.
