The 10th Frame/Monday Motorsports Chevrolet Monte Carlo was on hand at WIR today for the Wisconsin Challenge Series Budweiser/WAPL Spring Classic 100. A Wisconsin Challenge Series record of 59 Late Model cars were on hand for this big Wisconsin short track event.
With 59 cars on hand, qualifying was going to be a huge factor. Only 16 cars made the race based on time trials and the other 6 cars for the main event came
out of two last-chance qualifying races. There were also two provisonals for the Wisconsin Challenge Series regulars. Our first qualifying lap was a 20.048
with the car sliding around through turns 1 & 2. But on lap 2, the tires came in and we ran our fastest qualifying time ever at WIR with a 19.480! This was
good enough to put us 2nd overall for time trials, only .030 seconds away from fast time. Everyone on the team was very excited and overjoyed with the
blistering lap.
In the main event, We started outside of row 4 in the eighth position. When the green flag flew we quickly went to work on the outside fighting to hold our
position. We lost 1 spot on the outside and slid back into ninth place around lap 8. We passed a few more cars by lap 30 and moved into the 7th spot. We worked our way by for 6th place around lap 35 and held the sixth position until the mandatory red flag pitstop on lap 50. During the break, The crew went to work adjusting the car to loosen it up in the center of the corners. Once we went back racing, we were able to maintain our track position in the 6th spot and raced hard for 5th place through lap 75. Around lap 80, we were able to make a move to the inside and capture the 5th spot. In the remaining laps we tracked down the 4th place car, but were unable to make the pass. We finished the 100 lap event in 5th.
Today, We set to career highs in both qualifying and the feature event. Everyone is very excited to start the season of with the great run, and we are looking
forward of things to come in the 2005 season!
Our next event will be Thursday, May 19th @ WIR
Racing starts at 7:00pm
Hope to see you there!
