Sturgeon Bay, WI - 8/18/07
By Tom Wagner

A steady drizzle and the threat of continued rain through the night forced the cancellation of Saturday night's races at the Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay.

With Saturday's program called off, this weekend's show will mark the final point night of the 2007 racing season.

Benji LaCrosse is a virtual lock to claim the IMCA Modified title, entering the night with a 35 point edge over Todd Dart and Shawn Kilgore.  It would be LaCrosse's first modified championship at the track after winning the IMCA Stock Car crown in 2000.

In the Stock Cars, Matt Junio will enter the night 24 points in front of Charlie Kroll.  Qualifying for the feature would guarantee Junio's first ever championship.

Dave DeGrave's recent hot streak will probably not be enough to catch Keith Kickbusch in the IMCA Hobby Stocks.  With a 26 point lead, Kickbusch should pick up his second straight title.

Similarly, 18 point leads in the IMCA Northern Sport Mods for Jeff DuBois and Tony Everard in the 4 cylinders appear safe.  It would be the second straight championship for Everard.

Still too close to call are the Street Stocks and Thunderbombs.  Former Bomber title winners Scott Reinhardt and Jeremy Wiitala are in the spotlight in the Streets.  Reinhardt holds a slim four point edge.  John Sternard is mathimatically in the hunt, 12 points back.

Dan Merkle is trying for his third straight title in the Thunderbombs, but his lead is down to a single point over rookie Jesse Kroll.

Witt Peninsula Ford of Sturgeon Bay, along with Kelsey Racing will sponsor the show, with spectator spectator gates openning Saturday night at 4:30 and the first race at 6:00.

Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway is located at the John Miles County Park in Sturgeon Bay.  For more information, visit the track's website at www.racethunderhill.com.
