Point Standings Tight as Thunderhill Preps for Championship Night
By Chris Budzban

August 27, 2008; Sturgeon Bay, WI – As the Forest County Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway prepares for this year’s championship night, expect a great night of competitive racing as all 6 divisions are crowded at the top of the point standings.

Five-time IMCA modified champion “Felix” Todd Dart currently holds the top spot in 2008, but third year driver Shawn Kilgore trails by only 8 points. Jay Mathias and former champion Jeremy Jacobs are also in the hunt, 12 and 14 points back respectively.

Defending 2007 IMCA stock car champion Matt Junio is up by 14 points over the surprising Todd Polster. The IMCA stock cars have had the highest car count all season, so Junio’s lead is not safe by any means.

Dave DeGrave has all but wrapped up the points title at Luxemburg Speedway, and he currently has an 8 point advantage over Frank Paul at Thunderhill in the IMCA hobby stocks. Jarred VanLaanen and Marcus Moede also have an outside shot at claiming the title.

Jeff “Pepe” Vlies switched over from the IMCA stock cars to the IMCA northern sport mods for the 2008 season, and currently has a 6 point lead over rookie driver Brad Lautenbach. Both Vlies and Lautenbach have 2 feature wins at Thunderhill.

John Sternard is eyeing his 1st career track title in the street stock divison. Jeremy Wiitala has the most wins in the division with 4, but Sternard has shown consistency all season and has owned the top spot in the standings the entire way. Sternard currently holds a 7 point advantage over Wiitala.

Tony Everard will try and make it a 3-peat in the 4 cylinder division, as he holds a 16 point lead over Kipp Burlo. Jason Cornelius currently sits in 3rd place, 18 points behind Everard.

This week’s sponsor for championship night will be Kelsey Racing. Racing begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening. For more information, visit the website at www.racethunderhill.com or call (920) 743-7052.
